DIY ADA Flanger Clone
Переглядів 2,2 тис.Рік тому
I've just finished probably my most ambitious Veroboard DIY build. A clone of the legendary ADA Flanger designed around the MN3007 chip. Layout by Sabrotone based on the schematic by Moosapotamus. This is just a short video before I add the graphics to the enclosure. Trust me, it barely scratches the surface of available sounds.

    Kurt had an echo flanger first that he wrote a bunch of in utero stuff with and the pedal broke and he couldn't get it fixed but someone clued him in that the poly chorus was the same thing but much easier to find so he switched to it instead

    I love what these machines do. I had a Sireko for may years. I was poor so I used old 8-track tape to reload which worked very well. I puchased the Echoplex EP-3 for my birthday last year and have so may issues with it. No run-a-way , worbling, no sound on sound. I purchased a new head for the sound on sound issue, had some transistors replaced and a purchased a new tape. This brought the sound on sound back but very weak and speratic. I also purchased an up dated replacement motor but because of the mounting issues not sure I want to install it. Would rather rebuild the old one.. I hoping to find out why no run-a-way, get the worbling issue taken care of and get the sound on sound to work properly. Any suggestions would be great. Love your videos. Thanks for posting it! Cheers!

    I have one of these on my PRS CE24, which is a US made guitar. The Bladerunner is a really well made piece of gear, but I’ve had lots of tuning stability problems with it. I even got a luthier to set it up and get the tuning more stable, but it’s no better. I set the trem so it can be sharpened by a semitone when I pull the arm up, and the bridge has 4 springs attached. But any string can go sharp when the trem arm is screwed in, even when I don’t use it. When I use the arm, everything can go sharp or flat. The tuning seems good when the arm isn’t attached. Does anyone know how to make the tuning more stable?

    I like putting all three switches down, it becomes more of a reverb than delay, especially when you overdrive it.

    I love your build. Is this Sola Sound tuned? And I was wondering, how did you get the font so good. I am still trying to find an elegant way to extract it for my System build.

    • @blondegraemey
      @blondegraemey 7 місяців тому

      Hi! Yes, I did measure and select the transistors to achieve the best sound. I seem to remember breadboarding the circuit and selecting the best set by ear. For the font, I traced a photo of a sola sound TB in Adobe Illustrator and printed a waterslide decal on my home inkjet printer. The Level and Attack were added using some old dry transfer lettering. Hope that helps.

      @@blondegraemey Thank you :-) Found a good picture and am in the process of doing the same. Something else, if I may ask, what voltage did you aim for at Q2c with Attack max? That's not less than 4V, is it?

    Hi! Just wanna ask for the signal chain u used on this video. I ran the exp pedal output on the flashback delay to the tuner output of my VPJr then from the VPjr output going to my Reverb, and it doesnt seem to work. However if i run the exp pedal output on my flashback to the VPjr's output, then the Tuner ouput going to my Reverb, it suddenly was working. I'm just having 2nd thoughts if by running the reverb thru the tuner output of my VPjr could suck my tone out. Hoping for your reply on this one

    I have an original Colorsound Swell pedal (bought new from Hamiltons in Middlesbrough!) and in 2009 I built a VOX 847 wah circuit and turned it into a very nice wah pedal. Recently I wanted to add in a swell option and modified my VOX circuit to the Colorsound circuit (the circuit diagrams are readily available on line) - the problem was the wah and swell direction are different - I adjusted it so that the wah was bright toe down, but the volume was off at that point - I couldn't understand where I had gone wrong. Your video explains that this is actually how the original worked and that made me feel better. The US made Maestro Boomer 2 had both wah and volume working in the same direction, but the wah is not as gutsy as the VOX. I'd like to have both effects work in the same direction - I need to go back to the drawing board!

    Thanks for the demo. I have a new Micro for my electro-acoustic guitars, all clean tones, and it is amazing. As you say, it can sound like different FX. For me it improves on chorus, rotary and phaser. Regen usually stays set at minimum. Best modulation unit I've ever bought.
